Composer Brendon Randall-Myers reveals the twin pillars of his practice through two groups he belongs to: the experimental metal band Scarcity and the new music guitar quartet Dither. Yet despite seemingly disparate traditions, they’re actually not so far away in the way they combine his interest in complexity and aggression. Without the presence of dominating guitars, his composition work takes on a different cast, as evidenced by this new album from a New York septet whose instrumentation was built for Stravinsky’s classic “Soldier’s Tale.”
