AMMA: Live at Holy Trinity
Emanuel Ayvas
cmntx-035Emanuel Ayvas’ new album, 'AMMA: Live at Holy Trinity', is a video and audio recording of the release show on December 1, 2023, in New York City, celebrating his full-length album, 'AMMA'.
The original album is the result of a solo improvisation session, recorded one evening by Emanuel on digital piano and analog synthesizer in his Brooklyn home studio. In keeping with the spirit of spontaneous creation, 'AMMA' was released alongside a book of Emanuel’s improvisational poems and drawings.
For the release show, Emanuel crafted a narrative that stitched together the poems from the album booklet into a dreamlike story. This story flowed between both new songs from 'AMMA' and older material, as well as free improvisations. Works such as "Trembling" are new arrangements for strings, based on the original piano improvisations featured on 'AMMA'.
Filmmaker Matt Farrell brought extra dimension to the documentation, blending footage from the show, imagery from the album’s book of poems, and the cover artwork by legendary New Jersey painter Victor Victori, creating a psychedelic collage of words and imagery.
