Descent, the unflinching new EP from Harla, is out now via cmntx records

This five-track body of work draws inspiration from Greek tragedy, the twisted arc of Persephone and Hades, and the realities of life as a performer in the shadows of fame – Descent is a sonic memoir of a soul falling from grace—by force, by choice, and by fate.

Across these tracks, Harla traces the trajectory of a modern fallen angel—an archetype shaped by betrayal, toxic love, addiction, and loneliness. The result is a collection that blends gothic rock, baroque pop, and raw confessional songwriting with spiritual and mythological overtones. This is music wrapped in a velvet rage, and delivered with haunting clarity.

The EP opens with "Seeds", where betrayal cracks open the gates of heaven. What begins in stillness quickly descends into violence—an angel torn from peace by the hand of someone once trusted. "Hi Harla" enters with swagger—a seasoned performer embracing her own artifice, commanding the room through confidence, sensuality, and intoxication. "Chanson Fatale" deepens the descent, evoking sirens, succubi, and predatory obsessions—characters who both lure and suffer under the weight of desire. In "Doll", the tone shifts inward: a portrayal of childlike vulnerability caught in the grips of volatile love, dependency, and emotional manipulation. "Leave the Stage" is perhaps the EP’s emotional apex—a stark confrontation with mortality, addiction, and the brutal costs of visibility and ambition. Finally, "Apotheosis" brings a fragile form of peace. Death becomes transcendence. The stage becomes an altar. And what was lost is momentarily regained in a final, fleeting ascent.

Harla’s Descent is a story told in flames and fog, where every note and lyric carries the weight of a life lived in extremes.
